Through the Careers Hub, we work with secondary schools and colleges to transform careers education for our region’s young people.
We want our region’s young residents to have the skills, information, advice and guidance they need to reach their full potential.
Our Careers Hub encourages collaboration between education providers, the public, and the business community to provide positive career outcomes for our young people. We are supported by the Careers and Enterprise Company.
The focus of the conference was to support and inspire careers professionals who work with students with Special Educational Need and Disabilities (SEND). This was equally relevant for ALL of our schools and colleges – Mainstream, Special and ALP.
Our opening presentations were by variety of speakers including Ryan Gibson of The Gatsby Foundation and Hardeep Rai - a successful entrepreneur who worked with ex Dragon James Caan, with a powerful SEND story. This was followed by a panel discussion from other employers from a diverse background which included Dan Biddle, Alice McColl, Lucy Beattie and Robert Cremona who answered the audiences’ questions.
We then celebrated the Careers Leaders and Careers Advisers who had achieved the Careerpilot ‘Green Champion’ award. Followed by five workshops ranging from ‘Developing a comprehensive and inclusive careers policy programme’ to ‘Equipping careers professionals to support disengaged and SEMH students’
"I got so much out of it, more than I was expecting. It was inspiring and informative and I made what I think will be very key connections. I literally came home buzzing and wished that my colleagues had been able to attend. Thank you for all the hard work that went into organising the conference, I for one have benefitted hugely from it."
“The day gave me some inspiration on the range of different programmes out there to support SEND students. It was as brilliant as ever!”
“A good reminder of the type of adjustments that may need to be made. The event brought the topic to the forefront of my mind and enabled me to learn about organisations out there that can support.”
