Person getting on a bus

Birthday bus has been a huge success, with over one million journeys in the first year. It's helped take cars off our congested roads - reducing congestion and tackling the climate crisis, improving perception of buses, and changing long-term travel habits:

  • 1,169,295 journeys were made using birthday bus passes between August 2023 and July 2024
  • 46% of birthday bus users say they are now more likely to use the bus
  • 48% of people who used the birthday bus pass said they made fewer car journeys and used the bus instead during their birthday month
  • 44% of people who used the offer now think buses are easier to use
  • Six months after using their birthday bus pass, 38% of people say they now use the bus more than they did before

We're currently evaluating the results of the Birthday Bus scheme and exploring options to re-run it.
