Leadership and Management for SMEs is a tailored bootcamp for small businesses and sole traders who want to improve their leadership skills. It uses resources and expert speakers from small businesses who can relate to the situations faced by sole traders and micro businesses.

Entry Requirements

Must be a learner working or intending to work in the West of England Combined Authority Region, over the age of 19.

What you will learn?

The course will cover 8 masterclasses looking at subjects like: building a small team culture, creating a social mission, productivity and profit, time and resource management etc.

We’re looking for you to have an interest in project management or taking your existing management skills to the next level. While some previous knowledge is desirable, the most important factor is a positive mindset.

This course is for people looking to start a new career in project management or use the skills learnt to set up as self-employed or to help you secure new work.

You must:
  • Be aged 19+
  • Be living in Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, South Gloucestershire or North Somerset
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Agree to provide mandatory personal data and supplementary information on your career outcomes for up to eight months following completion of the Skills Bootcamp
  • Not have completed a Skills Bootcamp funded by the Department for Education (DfE) in the last 12 months
  • Have access to a computer and Excel

What will you learn?

During our Skills Bootcamp in Scrum Foundation you'll learn about Agile principles and the Scrum framework, including how to establish crossfunctional and self-managing teams, and how to produce a working increment of software at the end of each iteration or sprint.
At the end of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your learning and take the EXIN Foundation certification in Agile Scrum from the British Computer Society (BCS).

How will you learn?

You'll be taught by highly experienced lecturers and benefit from guest speakers, group exercises, and online learning. You'll attend one in person Scrum practical workshop in Bath on the 3 December and your final exam will also take place in the same week on the 4 December.
This hands-on course includes project work based on real scenarios that form part of the assessment process. You’ll have one-to-one reviews throughout the course to provide feedback on your experience.

Professional Apprenticeships

Summary and entry requirements

Those wanting to gain a professional qualification and have a basic understanding of project management.
Should have basic computer skills for word processing and spreadsheets, and an equivalent standard of level 2 maths and English functional skills or Grade 4/c and above at GCSE.

What will you learn?

A comprehensive understanding of project management throughout the project lifecycle.  You will learn how to write a business case, appraising options and defining scope and requirements.  You will learn how to plan a project so that it can successfully be completed on time and on budget, meeting its objectives. You will learn techniques to help with stakeholder management and communications, estimation and resources management, scheduling, and quality controls.

This course prepares you for the new version of the APM Project management qualification, so you will learn the new topics including transition management, sustainability, equality and diversity.  You will also receive 1-2-1 career coaching, employability, C.V and interview preparation sessions, and hear from existing project managers to learn more about the project management sector.

How will you learn?

Classes will be a mixture of in person and online class sessions.  Sessions will be 6 hours long with plenty of breaks, and be a mixture of individual, and group activities, scenario based exercises using real-life examples and theoretical knowledge.

Our Skills Bootcamp is designed for individuals with little or no project management experience, working for an SME organisation in a non-traditional project management role who are looking to develop an understanding of the core principles of project management approaches to apply in their working practices to address a range of organisational scenarios.

What you will learn?

The programme is delivered through eight one-day tutor-led interactive sessions, complimented by a range of self-study materials to support your learning and revision for your APM fundamentals exam. As part of the programme, you will have two individual career coaching sessions with our careers coach to reflect on your career aspirations and help build your own roadmap to achieving these.

Our Skills Bootcamp for Future Leaders is designed to empower current and aspiring leaders to excel in senior management roles. We will provide cutting-edge training in leadership, strategic thinking, business management, and innovation.

Entry requirements

Be aged 19+ Live or work for an organisation based in in Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset or North Somerset. Not currently be in full-time or part-time education. Have the right to live and work in the UK. Have not registered and attended (including partial completion) any other Skills Bootcamp since April 2024 from any provider. Work for an SME employer who has agreed for you to attend and achieve the required outcomes.

What you'll learn

Our Skills Bootcamp is structured through a mixture of live tutor led interactive sessions, lunchtime learner forum and self-study resources. Alongside this, learners will be supported by an industry mentor who has extensive experience of working in a senior leadership position within the creative industries and our Career Coach who will work with you to reflect on your personal career aspirations and help build a roadmap to achieving these.

Across the ten weeks you will explore topics including:
