This course is focused on careers in social care, aiming to provide employability and basic study skills with an up-to-date view of the social care sector. You must be aged 19+ , have the right to work in the UK and live in the Bristol area.

What will you learn?

You will learn first aid and gain a Highfields Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, acquire the underpinning knowledge of the Care Certificate to take to your first employer, and develop moving and handling skills and safeguarding awareness. Additionally, we'll enhance your soft skills, including CV writing, interview skills, work readiness, personal development, and provide expert guidance in social care.

The course will include classroom sessions and visits to employer premises.

Our Health and Social Care Bootcamp is designed for individuals aspiring to enter a career in Adult Social Care.

Entry requirements

  • Age- 19+ (Learners must be 19 by the 31st of August 2024 to be eligible for Skills Bootcamp Funding 24/25 Academic Year)
  • Must live within the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) which is: Bath & North East Somerset Bristol and South Gloucestershire North Somerset
  • Level 1 English in reading and writing
  • Learners will need access to a computer or laptop for the online sessions, phones or tablets will not be suitable.

What you'll learn

Throughout the program, you will attend masterclasses led by industry experts on key topics such as:

  • Dementia care
  • End of life care
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Manual handling
  • Neurodiversity

The course aligns with the Care Certificate framework, giving you a strong foundation for your induction into your new role. Upon completion, you will be guaranteed an interview opportunity.

How you'll learn

Delivery - The majority of this course will be delivered online via Microsoft Teams. Therefore, participants will need access to a suitable device, as phones and tablets will not be compatible.

Face-to-Face Sessions: Over the 4-week course, there will be three in-person sessions held at our Health and Active Living Skills Centre in Weston-Super-Mare. These days will offer hands-on, face-to-face learning opportunities.
