The Green Futures Project is a £300,000 fund from the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, designed to help schools to link careers education to the fast-growing world of green and sustainable industries. It aims to help tackle skills shortages while opening up exciting new opportunities for young people across our region.

What does the project aim to achieve?

  • Support schools to deliver careers programmes that inspire students to explore jobs in the green and sustainability sectors.
  • Make sure young people can access the right information and build the skills they need to take their first steps into a green career.

Driving change through partnerships across the region

The Green Futures Project has enabled local experts to deliver a range of targeted initiatives. Each partner brings valuable expertise – from practical experiences for students to workshops and training for teachers and resources for schools – all supporting the region’s transition to a greener future.

Partnerships

Through this project, South Bristol Youth is supporting and upskilling green employers, helping them to address skills gaps and attract diverse future talent. They offer workplace experiences and volunteering opportunities for students facing additional barriers, such as those on free schools meals, pupils with special education needs or those on Pupil Premium.

Delivering a structured programme of small-group workshops and employer engagement sessions, South Bristol Youth aims to enhance students' understanding of green career pathways and to get them ‘career ready’ - including through a large-scale green careers fair for young people parents and carers.
