The West of England Combined Authority is in its first year and has an exciting future supporting major investment in skills and infrastructure for the West of England area.
As part of strengthening its governance arrangements it is seeking to recruit a suitable person to act as an independent member on its Audit Committee.
The Audit Committee comprises 12 people, 11 Members from the three constituent authorities and one independent member.
The role is voluntary but reasonable expenses will be paid.
Applications are invited from individuals with suitable professional experience, preferably either as a member of a Board or another Audit Committee or working at a senior level in their organisation.
Ideally, you will have held strategic, financial or risk management responsibilities and understand how to act with objectivity and integrity in an independent role.
You will appreciate the importance of accountability in public life, and have the ability to understand complex issues and offer objective, evidence-based advice. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential as is a strong understanding of corporate governance.
The role of the audit committee is to provide independent assurance to the Combined Authority regarding the adequacy and effectiveness of its governance, internal control and risk management arrangements and to oversee the statutory financial reporting process.
The Committee meets up to four times a year, and on an ‘exception’ basis as required to include ongoing training and briefing.
