Today’s meeting of the West of England Joint Committee agreed to put a bid in to the Department for Transport (DfT) for £46m additional funding for the Phase 1 of the MetroWest railway project before December 22.
To support this, the West of England Combined Authority agreed to allocate £6m to MetroWest Phase 1, if the DfT bid is successful. £6m is already agreed by North Somerset Council. This local contribution will help present a stronger case for funding from the Department for Transport.
The West of England Combined Authority is chaired by the regional Mayor, Tim Bowles, and is made up of the leaders and Mayor from Bath & North East Somerset Bristol City South Gloucestershire councils.
The West of England Joint Committee is the decision-making body for issues relating to the West of England Combined Authority, Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire councils, and the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
