December 2017

I, like many others, take some time to reflect at this time of year. It has been a big year for me and I was, and still am, incredibly proud and humbled to have been elected as the first Regional Mayor for the West of England. Devolution is giving our region the opportunity to be ambitious at a scale not seen before. Working together, we are demonstrating that we have clear and ambitious plans and government is recognising this by investing in our future. The West of England Combined Authority secured over £80m in the budget, for new transport infrastructure. [...]

November 2017

It’s been a very busy few months. As well as my work here in the region, I’ve been travelling across the country, promoting the West of England and building new partnerships to help us on our journey to build a prosperous, positive future for all. Regional Mayors' Summit Last week I attended the first regional Mayors’ meeting. Just this week we heard how the West of England is set to lead the world in the development of ultra-low emission vehicles. Investment through the West of England Combined Authority and Local Enterprise Partnership will support the University of Bath to establish a new Institute for Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (IAAPS). Located at the Bristol and Bath Science Park, it will lead the [...]

June 17

Life has been something of a whirlwind since I was elected on May 4. I’ve met so many people and enjoyed discussing with them the challenges we face, and our ambitions for the future of our region. We’re already one of the UK’s most prosperous regions, well-connected, nationally, internationally and digitally. As we take on new powers, funding and responsibilities from central Government, I want to work with our partners to build on that prosperity, to benefit all our residents. With David Brown CEO of Bristol Port I am committed to getting our region moving, improving transport to [...]
