Tech start up launches UK’s first community-focused lost property app

Bristol-based tech start up, Found, is launching the UK’s first community-focused lost property app with a city-wide treasure hunt on Saturday 23 November.

The new mobile app and website platform allow users to record lost property, whilst people or businesses who find lost items can also use the app to register them. The latest AI technology then matches lost and found items and links the finders and losers of property to arrange their safe return.

Found’s CEO and founder, Lance Plunkett, said: “Over 50 million items are lost a year in the UK, with a value of over £1 billion. Join this to the fact that Police forces are no longer taking lost property at their stations, then you can see that there is a real need for a new innovative solution to this problem.

“As the coverage of the Found partner network increases, so does the chance of finding the lost valuables which are registered on the app. If your item is discovered, we’ll connect you with the person or organisation that found it, so that you can arrange to be reunited with your item.

“In this respect we’re trying to create a community network that helps each other, and promote social good.”

The company will also be partnering with local charities to stop unclaimed lost property from going to landfill – the first charity to be named is Caring in Bristol.

Found was supported to set up in the region by the West of England Combined Authority’s inward investment arm, Invest Bristol & Bath.

Patricia Greer, Chief Executive of the West of England Combined Authority, said: “This is a great example of the hugely innovative and beneficial technology that the West of England is famous for creating. We’re proud to support investment into our region by providing business intelligence, through our Invest Bristol & Bath team. The West of England Combined Authority will continue to work closely with Found to support its growth and ambitions in the region.”

Found had already piqued the interest of Bristol Sport Founder, Stephen Lansdown, who is a key investor in the start up.  They have made Bristol the first city in the UK to have access to the app, ahead of a nationwide roll-out in 2020.

Found’s Big Bristol Treasure Hunt will launch on Saturday 23 November from 9:00am. Treasure hunters will need to download the Found app and register two items to receive the clues.
