As we focus on long-term economic recovery and renewal for our region, I want to ensure that we are giving businesses all the support we can. That’s why my team at the West of England Combined Authority is leading a targeted business support programme to help kick-start our economy following the coronavirus outbreak. The aim is to help businesses build their financial resilience, innovate and adopt best practice, and boost their productivity.
The West of England Growth Hub is the Combined Authority’s dedicated business support service which plays a key role in delivering this programme. It helps small and medium-sized businesses access tailored business support, find and navigate information, and expand their networks. This business support programme, including free, one-to-one advice and guidance is part of our wider economic development activity, which includes sector-specific business support, skills and employment initiatives.
To support our region’s businesses to recover from the Coronavirus outbreak, I’m expanding the role of the West of England Growth Hub, to help firms to recover and adapt to new ways of working.
Small businesses are the backbone to our economy and so many residents’ livelihoods depend on their recovery, renewal and future success. This is why I am so focused on helping businesses overcome and adapt to face the unprecedented challenges ahead. Our future prosperity must be secured through renewed, sustainable economic growth.
I want businesses in the West of England to use the latest technologies to help them reach more people, so I’m excited to launch Trading Better Online scheme, a West of England Combined Authority initiative, delivered in partnership with TechSpark UK. This will help small businesses enhance their online presence, or market their existing online offering. It will help them adopt new technology and the latest digital marketing practices. This free service aims to support businesses strengthen their online presence, protect jobs, encourage sales and growth and boost their resilience. I hope that as many businesses as possible take advantage – get in touch through our Growth Hub to find out more.
Trading Better Online is just one of many Combined Authority activities to support businesses, delivered through our Growth Hub. Many businesses have been helped to find support they’re entitled to, through the Hub. We’ve also worked with our councils to support businesses at a local level and will soon be providing a service to improve financial resilience.
I will always do everything I can to support West of England businesses, as they are the cornerstone of our region’s prosperity and success. I hope that the Combined Authority’s new offerings, available through the Growth Hub, particularly in the digital space, will help our region bounce back stronger than before.
