STATEMENT from West of England Mayor, Tim Bowles, following visit by Secretary of State Sajid Javid

“I was delighted that we were able to host the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid, in the West of England region today. Our ability to talk to central government as a Combined Authority, with one voice for our region, is one of the key benefits of devolution.

Our priority in the West of England is delivering more homes for our residents, particularly affordable homes, and so today’s announcement, which will support our housing associations to deliver homes, is welcome. We have very strong and active housing associations across our region, and we will continue to work closely with them to deliver more new homes.

The West of England Combined Authority has already put in a Housing Infrastructure Fund bid to Government and I’ve also been leading discussions on a new 20-year Housing Deal to help us deliver new homes, including much-needed supporting infrastructure. It was very encouraging to hear the Minister talk positively about the deal today.”
