Rural Community Energy Fund application deadline fast approaching

Rural community groups in the West of England who are interested in developing renewable energy projects are being encouraged to apply for a Rural Community Energy Fund grant. The next deadline for applications is 9 December.

The fund, which is run by the West of England Combined Authority-hosted South West Energy Hub, offers grants of up to £40,000 toward feasibility studies and up to £100,000 toward development costs, such as planning and legal fees.

A range of community groups can apply for funding including Community Benefit Societies, Community Interest Companies, charities, social landlords, development trusts and town and parish councils.  The grant can support the development of a range of energy projects, including renewable heat, such as heat pumps, electricity including solar panels, biofuels and multi-technology approaches including energy storage.

Projects should be led by a community group with support locally and should benefit the community in which they are located.
