Singing across the generations in Paulton

There were songs and smiles all round as a group of nursery children joined residents of Paulton Care Home for a singsong with Mayor Dan Norris.

The multi-generational music group, which brings joy to the care home, is just one of the projects part funded by a £25,000 Mayoral grant supporting creative and cultural projects in the Somer Valley.

Kindness Connection, which brings nursery school children into care homes to sing with residents, is proving a hit. Children who regularly mix with older people see improvements to their language development, reading and social skills, according to a report by United for All Ages. Older people also benefit from interacting regularly with children.

Mayor Dan Norris, who joined in with the programme when it visited Paulton Care Home, said: “Music is amazing. It sparks up every part of the brain. Age doesn’t matter. It’s fantastic to see and hear everyone here in Paulton.”

Other projects that will be funded include those that encourage walking, cycling, and wheeling in the Somer Valley plus arts, culture and green events and activities.
