Metro Mayor Dan Norris full of beans as recovery begins

Newly-elected Metro Mayor Dan Norris popped into a local café in Bath today (17 May) as local businesses welcomed customers back for indoor dining for the first time in many months.

Cappuccino in hand, speaking from inside Mokoko Coffee, Mayor Norris was determined to help the message percolate through that our local restaurants, cafés and indoor attractions are open for business.

Mayor Dan Norris said: "It’s really great to be able to have a coffee and a meal out again and not have to wear a thick coat and worry about looming storm clouds! Local people know how great our West of England cafes, pubs, restaurants and attractions are, so let’s all back our brilliant businesses, while continuing to follow the Covid safety guidance. It’s time to open those purses and wallets.

"Thank you to Anna from Mokoko Coffee both for the cuppa and tasty treats today and importantly for talking to me about the issues local businesses like hers face. I’m determined to listen carefully and do what I can as Metro Mayor to support our amazing businesses."

Anna Judson, the manager of Mokoko Coffee Bath, chatted to Mayor Norris about the challenges her business faces and the opportunities for the future.

Anna Judson added: "I"m delighted to be finally opening up our indoor seating at Mokoko, welcoming our customers inside and building our teams. The pandemic has forced us to adapt but we are fortunate to have been able to continue doing what we love over the past year — serving great coffee and food to our loyal customers."

The Metro Mayor leads the West of England Combined Authority; leading the development of regional business, skills, housing and transport – issues that impact people living and working across the region.

The Combined Authority also leads on the recovery plan for the region, to make sure that the right support and infrastructure is in place for residents and businesses to drive the region’s recovery.
