More local businesses and charities, including cooperatives and community amateur sports clubs, across the region can now apply for grants of up to £15,000 to cut their energy bills and help our planet, thanks to the latest round of West of England Green Business Grants.
The scheme, championed by Mayor Dan Norris, has already helped over 300 small businesses and charities invest in energy-efficiency upgrades such as solar panels, heat pumps, insulation, LED lighting, and other energy-saving equipment. Together, thanks to funding from the Mayor’s £60 million Green Recovery Fund, their energy bills have been reduced by almost £500,000 a year – and already saved around 500 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
In the last week, almost £50,000 of further funding has been provided through the first tranche of the scheme: solar panels for a local scaffolding company, radiant heating for a church, a replacement coffee machine for a deli, an air source heat pump for a yoga studio, and greener air conditioning units for a barbecue restaurant.
Dan Norris, the Mayor of the West of England, said:
“We know that energy bills have a real impact on local businesses and communities. I want to see our region thrive while supporting businesses and charities to do their bit for net zero. That’s why I’m expanding my Green Business Grants programme to give a helping hand for even more organisations to cut their energy bills.
“As part of my £60 million Green Recovery Fund, Green Business Grants have already saved small businesses and charities almost £500,000 a year – and saved over 2,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. I want to encourage more eligible organisations to apply, so that my Mayoral Combined Authority can invest in their future.”
The grants cover between 30% and 60% of capital costs for eligible energy-saving projects. The scheme also offers support to identify carbon-saving opportunities through a free carbon survey and signpost businesses to installer directories.
Businesses and organisations across the West of England are encouraged to apply now while funding is still available. Applications are assessed on a rolling basis, and eligible projects must be completed by March 2026.
