Cargo-bike deliveries put business in espresso line

Cargo-bike delivery man with Dan Norris

Bristolian coffee lovers are full of beans to receive their caffeine boost by e-bike after Lost Horizon Coffee received a grant for a cargo e-bike.

Metro Mayor Dan Norris visited Kit Nisbet, founder of Lost Horizon Coffee and rode the cargo e-bike that is transforming the speciality coffee roastery.

Kit will feature in a new West of England Combined Authority campaign due to launch later this month that will help businesses to get the support they need to encourage walking and cycling.

The emission-free e-bike is used for all wholesale and retail deliveries. It has already been ridden thousands of miles – the equivalent of three journeys between Lands End and John O’Groats – meaning less congestion and pollution in Bristol’s streets.

West of England Mayor Dan Norris said: "This is a fantastic example of growing your business sustainably. All those miles which would have been done by van are now being done by pedal power and that’s great. I’m sure the coffee tastes even better knowing it is arriving in an environmentally friendly way."

Kit Nisbet explained the benefits of growing his business in a sustainable way.  He said: "The e-bike has transformed the business, I no longer have trouble parking when making deliveries and my customers really connect with it. We must do what we can to take care of the planet. I would recommend other businesses who want to minimise their carbon footprint to seriously consider factoring in e-bikes for local deliveries and business travel.  They reduce costs and pollutants in our air, and they are really good fun."
