International airline Lufthansa has further strengthened its commitment to the UK market with a new direct flight from Bristol Airport to Frankfurt Airport.
Commencing operations from 30 March 2020, the new service will operate twice daily six days per week and once daily on Saturdays, departing Bristol Airport at 9:35am and 5:50pm and arriving Frankfurt Airport at 12:10pm and 8:25pm local time. Return flights depart Frankfurt at 8:20am and 4:30pm, arriving Bristol at 9:00am and 5:10pm local time. The service will run year round from 30 March 2020 and will enable multiple onward travel connections from Frankfurt throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific. Travellers based in the West of England will have access to 2,886 weekly frequencies, spanning 177 destinations and 71 countries.
West of England Mayor, Tim Bowles, said: “This new link with Frankfurt is emblematic of the West of England’s global outlook and demonstrates the confidence international investors have in our region’s economy. I want to see our area take a greater share of the 100 projects and more than 7,700 jobs a year that are created in the UK by inward investment from Germany. These new services will go a long way to make that happen.
The West of England’s world class and innovative businesses need world class connections to stay competitive and keep our economy growing. So our team at Invest Bristol and Bath will continue to support the Airport to keep unlocking these routes, boosting jobs and growth right across the region.”
Complementing the recently announced Brussels Airlines service from Bristol to Belgium’s capital, this new route reaffirms Lufthansa’s commitment to growing in the UK.
Commenting on the developments, Andreas Koester, Lufthansa Group Senior Director of Sales in the UK, Ireland and Iceland, said: “We are thrilled to announce the launch of the service from Bristol to one of our major hubs in Germany, for summer
2020. The route will not only connect leisure travellers to the cultural city of Frankfurt, plus facilitate ease of onward travel, it will also attract additional business travellers to Germany’s financial centre. With the UK being such a vital market for us, we recognise the importance of reinforcing our commitment in this region and are delighted to be able to do so.”
Aside from strengthening Lufthansa’s network presence at Bristol Airport, this additional capacity provides the West of England with increased connectivity to long-haul destinations such as Tokyo, Cape Town and Singapore. It will also support the development of tourism and business links between both markets and create additional employment opportunities. It will also serve to enhance the UK economy by boosting inbound tourism opportunities for travellers to South West England, with ease of access to two National Parks, Stonehenge, the World Heritage
city of Bath plus numerous coastal towns and villages across Cornwall, Dorset and Devon.
Nigel Scott, Business Development Director, Bristol Airport, said “I am delighted Lufthansa is commencing the new route to Frankfurt from spring 2020. Lufthansa is a major global airline and the new double daily service from Bristol Airport opens up a wide range of European and worldwide connections to our customers. Frankfurt is a great city whether for business or leisure and the link between Bristol and Frankfurt allows us to promote the South West and Wales region to visitors from Germany and beyond. Today’s news announcing a new airline and a new route from Bristol Airport is a strong indication of the demand in the region and Lufthansa’s commitment to extend scheduled services within the South West and future route opportunities.”
