From 1 April 2021, many more adults within the West of England Combined Authority region will be able to take their first full Level 3 qualification (equivalent to an A-level) for free.
WECA has already reformed adult education funding rules to enable adults aged 19-24 and 50+ to undertake a first full and second full Level 3 qualification for free. With the launch of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee and Plan for Jobs, adults who are 24 and over and do not yet have A-levels, an advanced technical diploma or equivalent, can also take their first full Level 3 qualification for free.
Within the Lifetime Skills Guarantee, the Government has made almost 400 courses available and all have been identified to help ensure good job prospects, focussing on areas where employers need skills and leading to job opportunities that can help people earn a good wage.
WECA will fund this through its network of adult education provider, starting with the following five during the 2020/21 academic year:
- Bath College
- Bridgewater and Taunton College
- CJI Solutions
- Learning Curve
- Weston College
Other WECA adult education providers may also be able to start delivery before 31 July 2021.
