Forming part of the Nature and Business Resources Kit, this module explores the impact of nature on your profile and reputation.
Whatever steps you are taking to support nature’s recovery, take time to communicate your commitment and effort. Sharing your journey on your website, social media channels or through sector specific news will inspire and encourage others from your sector to consider what actions they can also take.
Many companies are concerned about claims of "greenwashing” (deliberately false or misleading statements about environmental credentials). While it is important to be straightforward and truthful about the knowledge you have and the steps you are taking, it is also important for businesses on all stages of the journey to share their learning. You can help by sharing and promoting the work of other SMEs in our region.
You may already create an impact report, annual report or blog articles sharing key areas of work.
As you're getting started, consider adding a new section to share how you have taken nature into account this year. Contact the Growth Hub to take part in a case study or share your work with others. If you have or are developing a Climate Action Plan, consider expanding this into a wider Environmental Action Plan, or create a separate Biodiversity Action Plan.
Environmental stewardship is an ongoing process. Once you have started, you may find it useful to join a business or peer-to-peer network to learn from others. If you are ready to share your thoughts with you customers and the wider community, you can take part in free events in the West of England such as The Festival of Nature.
Once you are further along your journey, you may wish to look into structured biodiversity reporting, or seek accreditation such as B Corp status. You may also wish to sign a pledge, such as the Nature Positive Business Pledge.
