Forming part of the Nature and Business Resources Kit, this module explores the business case for nature and the different business drivers.

All businesses – including those without outside space or even premises – rely on nature. This could include the materials in your office, or in the products that you create. Even if you run your business from a single laptop, there are impacts on habitats around the world; from the metals inside it, to how you choose to recycle or dispose of it.

We are facing a global biodiversity crisis, which affects us here in the West of England. Many species are threatened, and habitats are increasingly under pressure - here are just some of the trends we’re seeing in nature:

45 % decline in butterfly distribution since 1976
25 % decline in moth numbers since 1970
64 % decline in the abundance of UK Priority Species
54 % decline in breeding farmland birds
43 % of bird species are now threatened with extinction
26 % of terrestrial mammal species are now threatened with extinction
25 % of the UK’s fish stocks are in critical condition
