The Mayoral Priority Skills Fund (MPSF) has funded Western Training Provider Network (WTPN) to support college students to gain an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) through My Perfect Career Apprenticeships. Through this programme, college students are being equipped to explore lifelong learning, career choices and progression and should leave the course feeling capable of project management and self-directed research.
Below are some quotes from Level 3 EPQ learners who have shared how the project has helped them.
“I learned about several routes and organisations I could potentially use in the future for new qualifications and apprenticeships. In addition to this, I now understand how to research educational and career paths for the future when I potentially want to progress into a different role. As I learned from my case study, personal and professional growth is not only important for yourself and those you care for but also those looking to employ you. I now feel capable to make those informed choices about my next steps and if not, I now know where to find the information and support.”
“From completing this research project, I have gained several skills which will support me throughout my career progression. I have gained resilience from not gaining the responses and information I wished from the questionnaires which will be essential within the future when I don’t always get accepted to job roles I’ve applied for. Throughout the project, I have also gained valuable research skills which are essential within the health and social care industry as it has provided me with skills to effectively work with other individuals to identify and interpret information and come up with viable solutions. This has also enhanced my communication skills.”
“I have learnt how to use different tools like LinkedIn to gather contacts to help with my research project. I have also learnt how to create a questionnaire and learnt about the different routes into children’s nursing and the different forms of support out there. I have also learnt about the support that is out there for individuals going to university, as well as what they require to get onto the course. I have also learnt that children’s nurses can work in many different settings and not just in a hospital.”
WTPN are working closely with ASDAN and Bristol City College to deliver this qualification. If you wish to connect with Western Training Provider Network, please contact Alex Richards the Managing Director - alex.richards@wtpn.org.uk.
