Dr Jody Muelaner is a Mechanical Engineer with expertise in machine design and advanced manufacturing. Jody setup Muelaner Engineering Ltd in 2018 and offers technical writing across a number of research topics, alongside consulting for clients ranging from large aerospace companies, such as Airbus and Rolls-Royce, to small local fabrication shops.

Muelaner Engineering Ltd contacted the West of England Combined Authority’s Growth Hub for specific support on their growth plans.

Support from the team included:

  • IP advice
  • How to write a comprehensive grant application
  • Ways to secure funding for product development
  • Advice on prior art search and patent procedure
  • Use of digital strategies and technology to build online groups
  • Effective market research and client journey strategies

The support helped Muelaner secure an Innovate-UK Smart Grant to fund an 18-month period focused on new product development – an innovative folding e-bike.

Since working with the Growth Hub team, Muelaner Engineering has gone on to:  

  • Complete development of folding e-bike 
  • Build online user groups 
  • Crowd-fund their product launch 
  • Work towards securing further investment 
  • Scale-up their business
