People involved in the programme discover a variety of new skills and interests in an outdoor learning environment with the added focus on improving confidence and mental health. The programme seeks to support people into further opportunities that nurture their new skills and interests, such as volunteering or further training.
One such example is Alicia’s story. Alicia has wanted to develop customer services and barista skills, but a lack of self-confidence has held her back in the past. With lots of encouragement she is now gaining experience and skills working in the farm café:
“I want to offer a unique and special experience for anyone who frequents the café by providing a good service. I have developed my skills while working here. I am a perfectionist, and I am always trying to do my best and I still need to work on my confidence.”
Alicia continues to build her confidence and is working towards AQAs in barista training. The Roots to Work programme provides valuable opportunities for participants like Alicia to develop skills in a supportive learning environment.
