With funding from the Community Pollinator Fund, Nature Connection CIC are building a nature reserve stretching across the Avon region by installing pollinator habitats and native wildflower meadows in schools within the region. 20 schools are involved in this project, 10 of which have been funded through the Community Pollinator Fund. Activities have included seed sowing sessions, wildlife-focused assemblies, planting wildflower plugs, bulbs, and shrubs, and building seating spaces to support student and staff wellbeing.
Participating schools will join the Avon Schools Nature network to share their achievements online, showcase their new pollinator spaces, species seen, and the nature-based learning sessions they’ve held. Pupils had a hands-on approach, helping to design, create, and maintain their new habitats. To ensure these spaces have a legacy, pupils helped to draw up management plans, and teachers, parents, and pupils were supported through skills-based learning, ensuring staff were equipped to maintain and incorporate nature-based learning into their curriculum.
