On Thursday 6 May 2021 there was an election held across Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire to choose who will be the next West of England Mayor.

The Regional Mayor leads the West of England Combined Authority and makes decisions on issues that impact people living and working across the region, including, transport, homes, business, jobs and the economy.

The West of England Combined Authority also leads on the recovery plan for the region, to make sure that the right support and infrastructure is in place for residents and businesses to drive the region’s recovery.

The election was co-ordinated by the West of England Combined Authority who acted as the Combined Authority Returning Officer (CARO). This means that WECA has responsibility for liaising with candidates, producing a mayoral booklet, declaring the result and ensuring a consistent approach to delivering the election across all three council areas.

The polling was be managed by Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils.

The West of England Mayoral election uses the supplementary voting system. Electors will have two votes – one for your first-choice candidate and one, if you wish, for your second-choice candidate.
