Join the Business Board
Help shape the future of the West of England economy.
We are inviting expressions of interest from people who would like to contribute to the work of the West of England Business Board.
The Business Board brings together business, civic and academic leaders to provide an independent business voice into the work of the Mayor and West of England Mayoral Combined Authority. It is supported by Sector Groups covering the region’s priority sectors, which bring together a wider range of businesses, institutions and other organisations to provide insight, identify priorities and help shape action.
We are keen to hear from people with the experience, expertise and networks to contribute to this work.
We want the Business Board and its Sector Groups to draw on a broad range of perspectives from across the West of England economy.
We are particularly interested in hearing from people who bring:
- strong knowledge of their sector or of issues affecting businesses across the region
- experience and insight that can help shape regional economic priorities
- networks and connections across businesses, institutions or communities
- an ability to contribute constructively to strategic discussions and turn insight into action
- a willingness to work across organisational and sector boundaries
- a commitment to ensuring that a broad range of businesses, communities and perspectives are reflected in the Board’s work
Business Board members are expected to attend four Board meetings each year and contribute to relevant discussions and activity between meetings.
There may also be opportunities for people to contribute on a more occasional basis, for example through workshops, events or time-limited pieces of work.
We recognise that people will have different levels of availability and will discuss the expected commitment before confirming any formal role.
The role is strategic, and Business Board members are not expected to represent the interests of a single organisation, but to bring their own experience, judgement and networks to support the wider region.
The role is voluntary, and terms are for 2 years.
Applications will be considered against the requirements of the role.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview in November 2026 with appointments expected by the end of the year.
Successful candidates will join the West of England Business Board and take responsibility for leading their respective Sector Group.

We particularly welcome applications that help ensure the Business Board and its Sector Groups reflect the diversity of the West of England’s businesses, communities and places.
