Our region is home to over 40,000 businesses and has one of the highest skilled work forces in the country. We have many high-quality jobs and we want to give locally grown talent every opportunity to secure employment here in our region, starting with schools.
Our Careers Hub works with all 70 mainstream schools and colleges, and six Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) schools, from across Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.
The schools and colleges are supported to improve careers opportunities and work experiences for young people, allowing them to make more informed choices about their careers.
The Careers Hub, funded through the Careers & Enterprise Company, works to ensure that young people have more opportunities to connect with the world of work and potential future employers.
It builds on the success of the Enterprise Adviser Network, working in partnership with UWE, schools, colleges, and businesses to ensure young people get timely and relevant careers advice and meaningful work experience.

Enterprise Adviser Network
Young adults who recall four or more encounters with employers while at school are 86 per cent less likely to become what is known as NEETs (not in employment, education or training). They are also likely to earn around 18 per cent more during their career than their peers who did not have the same opportunities.
This is why the West of England Enterprise Adviser Network, managed by the West of England Combined Authority and Local Enterprise Partnership, with support from the Careers and Enterprise Company, is so important.
Our team of around 40 Enterprise Advisers works with schools and colleges, sharing their expertise to help improve careers advice and work experience opportunities for young people.
Business leaders – make a difference
We need more entrepreneurs, business experts and professionals across Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, to volunteer some of their time to work with secondary schools.
Training is provided and it is a great way to give something back to the community while also supporting their own professional development and raising awareness of opportunities in business and industry sectors with potential employees. Volunteering takes no more than six hours a month.
Business leaders already involved say they get huge reward from volunteering:

The world of work is changing fast. In the West of England we need to build a skilled and informed workforce to ensure that our young people are ready to cope with the fast pace of technological change.
Through our Enterprise Adviser Network and Careers Hub, volunteers from business will work directly with your school and college leaders to bridge the gap between the worlds of work and employment, bringing business and education closer together.
Together with our Enterprise Coordinator, these volunteers will work with schools to guide them through a range of possible employer interactions and help create a strategy for careers, enterprise and employer engagement.
